FEG AGM and Spring Field Visit
The FEG AGM will take place at the Black Bull Hotel in Moffat at 1700hrs on 18 March 2008. Prior to the AGM a site visit to see a de-stumper in action courtesy of Peter Whitfield of UPM-Kymmene who has kindly agreed for us to visit one of his sites at 1500hrs.
The following is a short background on the de-stumper. The project is about assessing the techniques, equipment and suitability of sites for harvesting stumps for biomass across a range of sites. The trial will draw on the extensive experience developed by UPM in Finland in terms of equipment, methods and site assessment. In assessing the various issues around stump harvesting UPM Tilhill is drawing on the Finnish experience and expertise from FC Research and SEPA as well as our own internal harvesting and forest management expertise. The trial is being carried out in the context of the Forestry and Water Guidelines and taking into account UKWAS standards. The overall purpose of the trial is to allow us to find effective ways of harvesting forest biomass for the UPM Caledonian Targe CHP boiler. This project has £10M of government funding and once complete will be a significant contributor to meeting the Scottish Government's objectives on climate change.
For easiness we should all meet at the Black Bull Hotel for 1430hrs where we will be guided to the site. For further information contact FEG Secretary:
