
2008 Awards
The 2008 IAgrE Awards Ceremony was held during the Annual Conference held on 8 May 2008 at Harper Adams University College. Several prestigious awards were made. The Award of Merit and the Award of Honorary Fellowship are the highest honours that the Institution can bestow.
The IAgrE Award Of Merit
The Award of Merit is made to a person distinguished by their work in agricultural science or engineering or a one that has rendered outstanding service to the Institution. Two awards were made this year:
Sir Anthony and Professor Godwin join a list of distinguished recipients of this award including Dr Helmut Claas and Joe Bamford (Mr JCB).
IAgrE Honorary Fellowship
The Award of Honorary Fellow is made to a person distinguished by their work in agricultural science or engineering or a distinguished person who the Institution decides to honour for services rendered to the Institution, or whose association therewith is of benefit to the Institution.
An Honorary Fellowship was awarded this year to Dr Dan Mitchell
IAgrE Award For Contribution To The Land Based Sector
This Award is made to an IAgrE member who has made a sustained contribution to the land based sector throughout their career. There were three winners this year:
Michael Dwyer Memorial Prize
The prize is to a mid-career engineer who has made outstanding progress in the agricultural engineering industry. The winner this year was Dr Mark Moore - Manager, Product Management – Global AGCO
Technical Group Meritorious Award
Made to a member who has consistently rendered outstanding service to a Technical Group of the Institution over a number of years, the award this year went to David Killer Head of Forestry Civil Engineering at the Forestry Commission
Branch Meritorious Service Award
Made to a member who has consistently rendered outstanding service to a Branch of the Institution over a number of years, the awards this year went to:
Johnson New Holland Trophy Paper Award
This trophy is awarded for the best final year project submitted as part of a First Degree, HND or HNC course in land based engineering. The winner this year is Andrew Parkinson of Harper Adams University College for his final year project entitled: Design of a tree stump grinder for use with a JCB 8018 excavator.
Douglas Bomford Paper Award
The Award is offered to the author or authors of a paper which, in the previous calendar year, was published in full in the Institution journal “Landwards” or “Biosystems Engineering” (formerly JAER). At least one of the authors must be a member of the Institution.
There were two winners of the Award this year: The first award is for a
paper in Biosystems Engineering:
A force prediction model for mouldboard ploughs incorporating
the effects of soil characteristic properties, plough geometric factors and
ploughing speed
authored by:
RJ Godwin, MJ O’Dogherty and C Saunders
The second award this year is for a paper published in Landwards authored by
Ian Yule co-written with Hayden
Lawrence and Rob Murray entitled:
Precision Agriculture
for Dairying
