Guidance notes for completing application form
These notes will assist you in presenting your application in the most effective manner and to avoid delays, which may result from incomplete information. Please read them before you start completing the form. Your completed application form will be the basis on which your qualifications for membership and Engineering Council registration are assessed. Care and attention to details are therefore important. This form should either be typed or completed in black, legible handwriting. Clarity is essential as it will be photocopied and placed before the Institution's Membership Committee. All sections 1, 3, 4, 8, 10 and 11 must be completed. Complete sections 2, 5, 6, 7 and 9 as appropriate.

 

1. Personal Information
Complete all sections clearly and legibly.

 

2. Grade applied for
It will not prejudice your application if you do not complete this section. The Membership Committee will offer you the most appropriate grade.

 

3. Membership of other Professional Bodies
If you hold membership of any other Professional Bodies, please complete this section.

 

4. Any other Useful Information
If you have any other information that you feel relevant to support your application please complete this section.  You may continue on a separate sheet if necessary.  If you have any published documents please attach a list with the title date published and name of the publication.

 

5. Technical Education
Technical education refers to academic qualifications such as First Degree in Agricultural Engineering or other relevant scientific subject or Edexcel-BTEC, SQA/SCOTVEC, HND/Cs, City & Guilds qualifications etc. You must provide details of any examinations you have passed and copies of all certificates you have mentioned in this section.

 

6. Summary of Industrial Training & Experience & Previous Appointments
You must give full details of your training period including types of training covered and the time spent on each phase.  Your experience record should be a continuous record from completion of training.  All dates to be quoted in month/year.  Continue on a separate sheet as necessary.  A copy of your Initial Professional Development record/report should be included with your application, if available.  See note below.

 

EC(UK) and SocEnv Registration

The form will be used for assessing your ability to meet the requirements of the Engineering Council (UK) and the Society for the Environment for nomination to one of their registers – CEng, IEng, EngTech. And CEnv respectively. You will be informed of the possibilities of registration available to you and any further documentation which may be required relating to Initial Professional Development/Industrial training & Experience. Initial Professional Development Record or Report forms are available from the Institution on request.

 

7 Present Employment
To assist the Membership Committee to make a full assessment of your application please give full details of the nature and scope of your work, responsibilities and to whom you report [if applicable], and the number and grade of members staff who report directly to you.

 

8 Student
If you are currently a student, please complete this section and ask your College to sign and date to confirm. It is important that you complete the start and expected finish dates of your course.

 

9  Proposer & Seconder
As far as possible your Proposer and Seconder should be Corporate Members of the Institution. Your sponsors are important as they may be called upon to give further information. Please ensure that they have completed the relevant sections on the back of the form and have also confirmed your statements by initialling them in the margin. If you attach extra papers eg certificates, cv, please ensure that these are also signed by your Proposer & Seconder.

 

10 Declaration
It is important that you sign and date this section.  No application will be processed unless this has been signed.

 

Notes
1 Students (UK and EU Courses only)
Complete section 1, 2, 8 and 10. Ensure your College signs and dates Section 8.

 

2 Process Fees
Full-time Students are not required to pay a processing fee. All other applications or transfers require a processing fee of £25.00.

 

3 Applicants should note the following definitions and Code of Conduct
An Environmentalist is one who has a knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to, sustainable development.
An Engineer is one who acquires and uses scientific, technical and other pertinent knowledge and skills to create, operate and maintain efficient systems, structures, machines, plant, processes and devices of practical and economic value.

 

Chartered Environmentalists demonstrate a day to day commitment to sustainable development in an obvious and transparent manner. They should display virtuousity in sustainable environmental management and development

 

Chartered Engineers are concerned with the progress of technology through innovation, creativity and change. They should be able to develop and apply new technologies, promote advanced designs and design methods, introduce new and more efficient production techniques, marketing and construction concepts and pioneer new engineering services and management methods. They may also be involved with the effective direction of advanced existing technology involving high risk and capital-intensive projects.

 

Incorporated Engineers perform technical duties of an established or novel character either independently or under the general direction of more senior engineers. They require the power of logical through and, when in a management role, the qualities of leadership and effective control.

 

Engineering Technicians are competent by virtue of their education, training and practical experience to apply knowledge and proven techniques and procedures to the solution of practical problems in a wide variety of contexts. There is always a strong element of personal responsibility, often applied in consultation with Chartered Engineers or Incorporated Engineers or other professionals such as Chartered Environmentalists

 

Code of Conduct

Article 20 Code of Conduct of the Articles of Association of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers states:

‘Every member shall at all times so order his conduct as to uphold the dignity and reputation of the engineering profession. He shall at all times safeguard the public interest in matters of safety, health and otherwise. He shall at all times exercise his skill and judgement to the best of his ability and discharge his responsibility with integrity and due technical competence.’

 

Furthermore, General Rule 1 (b) states that ‘A member shall at all times and in all respects:- take all reasonable care to protect the working and living environments of himself and others and to ensure the efficient use of materials and resources;’
