BBSRC industry interchange programme

Funding for short-term exchanges of researchers, in either direction, between the science base and industry.

 

Benefits:

  • fostering links between science base and industry
  • enhanced uptake of BBSRC funded science by industry and vice versa
  • access to knowledge, skills, expertise, equipment and facilities
  • enhanced understanding of industry trained needs

Programme is open to BBSRC-funded researchers within UK Universities / BBSRC-sponsored Institutes and UK industry.

 

Applications must fall within BBSRC's remit. Interchanges may be full or part-time or in tranches.

 

Individual awards are not likely to exceed £50K and a significant cash or in-kind contribution from the industrial and/or academic partner will be required.

BBSRC Industrial CASE Studentship Awards

These are three year studentships (leading to a PhD) made to companies, enabling the company to choose both the research project and academic partner. In making awards BBSRC agrees to meet the students tuition fees and, where appropriate, pay a maintenance grant. There is an annual closing date (1st October) for awards commencing the following October.

 

Benefits to the company:

  • An opportunity to support and influence basic research relevant to company objectives.
  • The freedom to choose academic partners and opportunities to explore new research collaborations.
  • Direct supervision of a high quality graduate providing insight into potential company recruits.

 

What is the company required to provide?

  • A student placement of at least 6 months.
  • Training for the student in wider research and business-related skills.
  • An enhanced stipend and contribution to the academic department.

Engineering graduate seeking post

I am 27 and have just completed a BEng (Honours) in Agricultural engineering at Harper Adams. I am currently searching for jobs within the engineering industry and am prepared to travel anywhere both in the UK and throughout the world. For my placement year at university I worked at the global hydraulic valve design and manufacturing company Husco International, where I gained experience in design, testing and manufacturing engineering practices. I have served an Engineering apprenticeship with the UK Caterpillar Machinery Dealer Finning Uk Ltd during which time i have been studying for the NEBOSH General Certificate to become a qualified Health and Safety Advisor.
